Hello beautiful reader, welcome to another newsletter!
I’m excited about this particular topic, I'm sure you’re already interested, as the topic is well… strange.
With this newsletter, I hope I can show you why you can liken how you treat your mind to how you bake a simple cake.
A couple of months ago, I was sure I’d hit rock bottom. I couldn’t seem to focus on anything, I couldn’t get any work done, I was sad, anxious and at a certain point, seriously sick. Worst of all, I couldn’t pray or speak to God. Looking back now, I can say that every other thing was just an after effect of that one fact, I couldn’t focus. And because of this, I couldn’t talk to God, and I was lost.
Why was I going through all of this?
My mind was a mess. Everything I was failing at was attached to what I believed about those parts of my life.
I found that my mind had a mind of its own.
The good news is, you can control your mind. In fact, if you have no control over your mind and what goes on in there, then you’ll slowly but surely lose control of everything else.
Sorry I started out so doomsday-ish.
While trying to put this together I did a little research, (obviously), and I tried to find out the most important ingredient of a cake.
That ingredient was flour, (another obvious answer).
Flour holds the cake together and gives it structure. I found that not only does it give structure, you can’t make a traditional cake without flour, just like you can’t have a healthy mind without feeding it with good things.
The Bible talks a lot about the mind, because our loving Father, knows how much what we believe and what we take in can make or break us, not just our minds.
Romans 12 vs 2 states;
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you’ll God’s good and perfect will”
We always want to know what God’s will is, what He wants for us.
When our minds are renewed daily, we become aligned with God’s words, we begin to reflect Him.
That’s also why salvation is so focused on belief. “...if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. We believe what we continuously feed ourselves, and we are what we believe.
It was this part of salvation I did not understand; The part where I had to believe in my heart.
And not only salvation, this renewal of mindset, ran into all aspects of my life and suddenly, light broke through.
I can do anything I want to, especially if its in God’s will, if I believe it in my heart first.
I have also found that flour has many specific roles in cake.
Flour provides the basic structure for the cake by forming a network of gluten, which traps air bubbles during mixture and gives the cake structure.
In the same way, what we feed ourselves form the basic structure of our beliefs, and that belief acts just like gluten, trapping a new mindset into different parts of us and creating the structure of our mindset.
If I wanted to become the world’s best baker, I would go online and search who it currently is first.
Then I would research that person and all other exceptional bakers globally.
I would read as many books as I can on baking and I would watch videos, movies, and documentaries.
But then, that’s me. What would you do to reach your goals?
Just how far, how deep, are you willing to go to transform your mind; transform your life?
What then, should we feed our minds?
Well, that is up to you.
Still, let me break it down in the best way I can.
Going back to the flour analysis, I was able to gather the best ways to know good flour, and in the same way I think we can apply these to how to know good information fit for the mind.
Ø Appearance,
Ø Taste,
Ø Packaging,
Ø Brand reputation and type of flour.
Good flour should appear smooth and uniform.
In the same way, positive information can always be easily identified, most of the time, through its appearance.
I’ve always believed that good or bad information can be easily recognized.
Good flour also tastes neutral with a hint of sweetness.
We are to taste only a small amount of the flour before making use of it, to be sure of the quality.
We can test or rather, taste every piece of information before bringing it into the sacred place that is the mind.
Flour packaging should be checked before use for any damage or inconsistencies.
Have you ever downloaded a new app, tried it for like 5 minutes, then deleted it?
Those five minutes were enough to tell you that the app wasn’t the best..
Information is like that too. You know what you want to do, what you want to improve.
So, you are able to tell what information is damaging or just not for you.
At a point in my life, I wanted a new music app, but I didn’t want to pay.
Do those words sound familiar?
I found an app and started using it, despite several people telling me that the app was horrible.
It was working for me, so what did I care if it didn’t work for others?
The flour analysis says to pay close attention to the brand reputation, because even though its just flour you need, its not just the flour that matters.
It was just music I wanted to stream, but it turned out to not just be about the music.
“It’s just one course I’m learning, does it matter if that online academy is known for giving fake certificates?”
“I don’t even need the certificate, I need the knowledge”…
Does this thought process sound familiar?
Its always more than the information. Our minds are sacred and so is the information that goes into it, so is what comes with that information.
Good information is good. But the best information, is of course the Bible; our life manual.
Looking through the requirements of good flour in relation to the requirements of good information, the Bible has it all.
It says, “physical training is of some value, but godliness, is of value in everything and in every way, since it secures this life and the one to come”
Following God’s will takes care of our life here on earth, and for all eternity.
It is God’s will that all men be saved, but how can that happen if we don’t accept and believe in that salvation so freely gifted to us?
If we don’t renew our minds to regularly live up to all we’ve attained?
Earthly wisdom counts for much, but divine wisdom….
Here at Everything Written we are more than willing, to help you gain earthly wisdom and even much more, divine wisdom.
Finally friends, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pure, whatever is just, think on these things.
We can be anything we want to, when we believe it first.
